The Gallery at the Inn

History

The GALLERY at the Inn is located in the Davis-Bourne Inn in Independence, VA. The Inn has featured works of local artists since opening but in Fall of 2009 the Inn dedicated all free space to artisans and invited more artists. Currently, we have works of art of various mediums including originals and prints, photography, wood, porcelain and pottery. The GALLERY also offers a number of gifts including local books, music, note cards and a variety of keepsake Davis-Bourne Inn momentos.

The region is rich in art of all expressions, most notably music. The Town of Independence is the geographical center of Virginia's Music Heritage Trail, The Crooked Road which runs along Highway 58 through Grayson County.

Even though Arts and Crafts are a strong part of the heritage of the Blue Ridge Mountains and that a great many of the regions artisans moved here in the 60's and 70's, there has been a recent push to promote the Visual Arts and Crafts of the area. 'Round the Mountain is a 19 county initiative to make artisans more visual to a wider audience. Virginia's Cultural Heritage Commission oversees The Crooked Road, The Wilderness Trail, 'Round the Mountain and the future gateway of 'Round the Mountain, Heartwood. Heartwood is a museum visitor center under construction in Abingdon that will guide visitors to trails throughout the 19 counties.

The Davis-Bourne Inn and Journey's End Restaurant features art of all expressions through the GALLERY and through various artistic presentations throughout the year including the Winter Artists in the Parlor, the summer Music on the Lawns and the fall Meet the Authors. Previous entertainers and artists include Earth Mama, Author Joe Tennis, Little Windows, Glass Artist Vanessa Wright and the Yazoo Sisters.
